OKAY, I am officially an idiot. I broke the input jack on my Fender MIM Stratocaster. The cable kept falling out while I play so I removed the jack with the intent of giving the prong a little bend so that it holds the cable end in place. As soon as I gave what I thought was a little push, you guessed it, I snapped the prong right off  . I had to take it over to a local guitar shop and have the jack replaced. It was not expensive but it was both aggravating and embarrassing!

I think I need to get me an old beat up guitar to practice fixing/upgrading.

Oh well, maybe next time I will do better!

Don't be so hard on yourself, you could have done a lot worse!

Also, don't be bandying around the word, "upgrade" too freely.

I hope you specified the replacement to be a mil-spec Switchcraft.

Otherwise and you're likely to be replacing it again at some point.

Now THIS is a bonafide "upgrade"!

I didn't check to see who the manufacturer was but the new one is pretty rigid! Holds the cable vvveeerrryyyy tightly...I had to get out of their quickly anyway. I was getting too close to whipping out the old credit card. They had a Schecter C1 Custom that I was getting way too attached to while he did my repair.

I actually had a bad barrel jack on my bass that I replaced myself. Its quite a simple fix.

Don't worry stuff like that happens all the time...

That's exactly what I recommend. Get a used Squier Affinity for $80 or so and take it apart and put it back together. No need to even change anything. More fun on a rainy day than making a plastic airplane model or a sculpture out of Popsicle sticks. When you're finished you can print yourself out a certificate as a 'Guitar Technician'

He'll never get hired as he'll then be, "over qualified".

Hey! :x I have dealt with the manager of my local Guitar Center several times. I don't think that he can walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.
