If anybody out there has a Fender Strat XII 12 string, I would greatly appreciate a measurement that is not in the Fender specifications.
I need to know the width of the neck at the 22nd fret.
Thanks,
Doug

Retrofake, the guitar Doug is talking about is the original mid-1980s Strat XII with the Electric XII-like bridge, not the late 2005 reincarnation with the modified 12-string hardtail Strat unit.

(pictured guitar is not mine, I found this photo from Chris Guitars' website)

Only the original 12-string Stratocasters came with a 22-fret neck.

Sincerely yours,

Congratulations, minnow-boy.

Now if you can merely measure your Strat 12-string's neck at your 22nd fret, one of your posts will finally achieve some relevance.

This looks like a picture from Chrisguitars.com. I've purchased a few instruments and an amp from Chris. He's a great guy and always has great deals.

I recalled Chris having a rare ash-bodied Elite Stratocaster in Emerald Green and a Pewter EC model from 1989 in his store. These guitars were already sold.

As for the Pewter EC Strat, Chris wrote a brief comment about the guitar's history. He said that Eric toured with it for nearly 2 years (1986-1987) before the original 21-fret neck being replaced by a 22-fret flamed maple neck crafted by Mike Stevens in February of 1988.

Once again, chromefake......a superb job of thread thievery.

Doug, I contacted a "mate" in Australia with one of the "original" Strat 12-strings and he indicates that the neck width at the 22nd fret measures 2-7/32" on his (that translates into 57mm if you need a metric dimension).

How about at the 21st Fret. I looked up the specifications, and one site showed "22 Frets."

Thanks to all of you for your replies. I've learned a lot about the STRAT XII in a short time from you.

Some additional info, Doug.

The extra fret on the original 12-string neck was installed in the same manner that Fender employed to add a 22nd fret to its normal MIA six-strings. Pics here will clearly demonstrate that......

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Stratocaster ... 1c1d1ab5f6

The "re-issue" 12-string (with 21 frets) uses a Gotoh bridge that passes only one of each paired strings through the body, ie: a rear-loader. The other six strings are top-loaded through the bridge plate itself. The "original" 22-fret 12-string body loads all strings from the rear, through ferrules counter-sunk on the back (ala the Telecaster).

PM me for any additional info, Doug.

I've owned my 12-string Strat for over four years now and play it professionally on stage -- I've torn it apart (twice) and I'm pretty familiar with most of its idiosyncracies.
