I got my VG Strat about two years ago at Guitar Center when they were closing them out. I had a choice between a brown sunburst or the blizzard pearl. They had it for $700 with the fender molded hard case and all the case candies that came with it. Still having fun with it and no problems electronically or mechanically. Battery life kinda sucks though and I will suggest using NiMH batteries. I love the fact you can change the tuning modes on the fly.

The blizzard pearl is great color, and the price is a steal! When I bought my VG they were only available in black and sunburst. I opted for the black and recently changed pick guard to black. Had to do some extra drilling and routing but it doesn't look bad. The roland active pick up is white as well as two of the knobs that control tones and tunings. I changed everything else to black. It plays great and the looks are one of a kind (be they good or bad...) Don't know if picture will show up, I'm no good with computers if my wife isn't helping me... /Users/frankwales/Desktop/IMG_2220.jpg

I bought mine early as well ...07 I think, in black. I own other Strats, but when I picked this one up and played it , it had on of the best necks I've ever played... Sadly I have wanted an EJ now for years, and none of them have measured up to the playability of my VG. I did try out other VG's since I have purchased mine, and strangley it seems that the original production models seem to all feel better and ring like piano's... oh ya the electronics can be a hoot sometimes and I love the alternate tunings at a flip of the switch, but I stick to the stock pickups most of the time. Something else I noticed... most of my amps didn't complement the acoustic settings very well, until I tried them on the Marshall Vintage Modern... very nice...

Played one and loved it. I spent a good bit of time on it too, at least an hour.

Long story short it was an acquaintances guitar. He wanted me to set up his CS 54ri and play my Vintage Hotrod and Custom Classic too. So the guitar had a bit of competition in the room. It did well, I loved it.
The sounds on the guitar are more than good enough for any live application. Some of the acoustic models less so. I'd be surprised if there aren't a fair few studio's in the world that have one residing in em.

All in all, if one came up tomorrow, I'd snap it up.

Next time you have that guitar in your hand throw it into Baritone and try that "John Henry" riff, or better yet, the intro riff to "I Just Got Paid'

Doc sadly my relationship with that fellow did not end well. He got a free set up and fret level on a Custom Shop Strat free. On the promise that it would play better and hold tune better than all his other guitars (which it did, bit of a Hank Marvin fan that likes his trem arm) that his usual chap set up. And my prices were a lot cheaper as long as he supplied the strings.
Done the job, made sure he was 100% happy with the work before I left the shop. Didn't hear another word from him.
Nepotism ala rural England anyone?

Exactly like this

I'm glad to say the better shop in town has far better stock. Run by a much nicer chap who educated in music to degree level, out of town and played for one of the better city orchestras. And has given me a couple of jobs since he started stocking Fender guitars.
So I'll get my own VG when one arises.

Look for a Deluxe. You'll love that V-neck and, of course, those SCN's

Nah I've got a Deluxe that I'm not overly enamoured with. I can't remember the last time it was out of the case. Not that it sounds or plays bad. Quite the opposite is true. Just one of those things I suppose.
