I have a strat of unknown origin that has gold hardware and smooth gold pickup covers. I bought a used set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups to put in it and I am asking if I might need different pots for the noiseless VS single coil pups and if gold covers can be purchased or transferred from the current pups to maintain the look. I see metal pickup covers offered for telecasters but have not seen any for strats without the holes for the pole pieces. The ones on my guitar now are not very magnetic but do have tabs underneath bent to hold them on the pickups, so I assume they are aluminum. Does it take a special pickup to use these solid covers like I see on many of the Custom Shop Strats or can they be added to common pickups without affecting their sound?

I wish it was a Custom Shop Strat, but it is apparently a clone that is based on the Jaguar Cars Custom Shop models of 2000, a run of 25. This one may be Chinese or Mexican origin judging from the rough HSH body routing and the non-standard 10 screw pickguard. It looks pretty good, which is why I bought it, and it plays Ok to my inexperienced hands, but I wanted some quieter pickups since these hum pretty good on "drive" and "more drive" amp settings.

Hello PHil,

Clone or not that a pretty nice looking guitar.
If you gotta get new pickups maybe black covers
would look good.

Best of luck with it.

Yes, someone spent a good deal of time on the neck; perhaps an Asian fellow in some little back alley shop, but who knows? I find no markings on the neck to indicate where it came from, just a serial number that doesn't match anything Fender has used - It came to me from eBay and the seller said he traded an amp for it and didn't know any more about it.

I still like it, though, and I haven't seen another similar except for the 25 Custom Shop originals that I'd be afraid to play even if I could afford to own one. I actually like the "growler" head better than the real custom models, although it is not the official Jaguar Cars growler logo.
