Here a a couple of pictures of my 1979 strats. The red one is near mint condition and plays great! The sunburst one has a nice sound.

See:

Is it a good idea to change the red one and the sunburst one to a telecaster (std) in black from 1975? This without any money to both owners.
The description of the telecaster 1975 is:

Fender Telecaster 1974-75, original black finish, EC condition with some cool crazing in the finsih, original throughout, except for a changed bridge-pu and bridge plate, pots all date late 1974 (43th week), neck dates 1975, Features a maple neck with maple cap, black dot markers, 21 frets, all other hardware-electronics original, older tortoise pickguard, weighs in at a low 3.4kg, 650mm (25.5") scale, with nice later thermometer tweedcase. This is a very cool and superb sounding telecasterThanks for your feedback!

Not in my opinion...both strats for a tele that is only a few years older? I could see maybe the red one for the tele (as both are not standard colors), but certainly not both.

FWIW

I agree with T2Stratman - the '74 Tele isn't worth two '79 Strats. If you really like the Tele I would say it would be worth trading one of the two Strats. Normally a '74/'75 might be worth a little bit more than a '79-ish Strat (or Tele), but the Tele you're looking at has a non-original bridge pickup. If the '74/'75 Tele was all original I might kick in some cash, but not sure in this situation.

No way for me. Maybe the red one for a straight change.

Cheers,

Agree .... trade nothing, certainly not two for one.
Save up and buy the tele.
Then if you change your mind you'll have no regrets. :D

+1

Dutchy is spot-on with that last bit. Would that I could now have back some of the axes I foolishly traded (one was stolen) back in the days of my idiotic youth. Take this now-older and wiser man's advice: Keep at least one of those Strats. If you must trade, then trade the Strat you play the least. I'll guarantee you that you will live to miss them if you trade them both. Two Strats for one Tele?? NO way!!!!
