I think that the Tex-Mex pups sound great, and are the most underrated pups out there. Great bang/buck ratio. They come standard in the Jimmie Vaughan and Road Worn Strats, as well as some Strats paired with a humbucker pup, and have a nice "vintage early 60s" type sound (sparkle and spank). :)

Also aren't they stock in the Robin Trower strat?

I've read that it was a Tex-Mex in the bridge, and there are ads that list it as Tex-Mex, yet both the Fender product site and CS site list a Texas Special. Maybe there were different versions...... :?:

+1

Seriously under-rated!

I do not personally own any nor have I ever, but I've heard them many times and in some aspects they sound nicer than Texas Specials.

Hi Dave: yes, would be my answer.

I have Tex-Mex single-coils paired with a Diamondback humbucker in my Am Std. I like 'em plenty.

Dunno if that helps you any, though...

Cheers - C

The first guitar that I played with Tex-Mex pickups was a Jimi Vaughn and I bought it right away because the sound was so reminiscent or the L series 60s Strats. If you like the nice ringing sound that Jimi Hendrix got from his clean tone on his early recordings(The Wind Cries Mary,One Rainy Wish,May This Be Love) you'll love the Tex-Mex.

No doubt the Tex Mex pickups are very, very good. I got a set in my Road Worn Strat and I get a nice warm full tone.

I can personally say the Tex-Mex pickups sound outstanding. Had them in my California Series Strat. I played that guitar for over 10 years. I guess that's why I kept the guitar for so long. And I would still have it, if it wasn't for some thieves.

+1 on that. Thieves suck, plain and simple (Cries softly thinking of my 2010 mim Strat)

My guitar came with three, but I removed the neck an bridge and replaced them with Seymore Duncan Humbuckers, and it really improved the sound 10 fold. They originally came with my 2006 anniversary addition pearl white MIM strat. I bought a MIA standard, and they both sounded so much alike, and the neck on the MIA was soooooooo much nicer feeling, I was never going to play the white one with its SSS pup system they way it was, so the great change in sound was what got me playing it more and more, once again. Just my opinion.
