The shape of the pickup and the pickup routing may prevent you from doing that unless the guitar has a "swimming pool" route or you have it rerouted to accomodate the lefty pickups.

+1 bluesky636,

You would have to rotate the righty pups 180 degrees, for the the stagger in the pup poles to be correct. But, didn't Hendrix have a similar setup, righty pickups with guitar strung lefty? Might give you a cool sound that way. (of course his guitar was righty, so neither the routing, nor rotating the pups were issues)

If you are talking stock Standard vs American Standard pups, then yes, quite a difference. But there are many Mex models that have the same pups as Am models, or at least upgrades from Standard. Which model do you have?

You could try rotating your existing pups to see if the righty pups will fit this way without interference of the body routing, before you buy anything. Otherwise the righty Am pickups will fit if installed normally on a lefty Strat, just the poles staggers will be off (ala JH).

I believe the one i have is just a standard Mex. I bought it used it is a 2006 mod.

The other pickups came out of a 2011 Am standard righty.

I'm a lefty & replaced my mim strat pups with d.allen jm r&b right hand pups.

All I did for these pups was raise the pup height so the shorter poles were closer to the strings & the longer poles were further from the strings (opposite to a righty strat)
as per David Allen's suggestion.
My mim strat sounds really sweet!

hope this helps

I took an MIM lefty Strat and strung it righty with no issues however I think that you may have to buy a designated lefty pickup to achieve proper sound balance.

I went totally brain dead when I originally answered the OP. Yes, what shimmilou said is true and is what I should have said in the first place.
