I read some of the topics but didn't get the specifics I was looking for. I've had a MIM fender deluxe for a few years now and right after I got it I installed Kinman pickups. How much better sound would I get if I changed all my electronics like volume and tone pots. If it would be better, what would you recomend and where would I purchase it. I play for my church so I do prefer a clean, smooth tone with lots of sustain. Please advise!!

Hi Porkskin,

If the pots that you have now are not scratchy or malfunctioning, you won't get any improvement in tone or function by changing them. Very likely that your Mex model has the same pots used on the Am models (CTS pots with numbers stamped into the case back). If you want a much different tone (which may sound better to you or not) you can try different values for the pots and tone cap(s), if you have the time, money and patience to try out something different. But, odds are that the values that you have now will give you the best tone. Actually, changing the value of the tone cap(s) can give you a noticeably darker or brighter tone. For example, if you have a .022 value and you change it to a .047, you will get a darker tone.
