Hello all, decided to stop lurking these forums and ask a question about a strat that I'm thinking about buying.

The title says it all, but here's a pic:

Hope I'm not showing my ignorance, but what are those little black things screwed into the pick guard?

Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that they might be home made or aftermarket divices to hold the bridge in place when aren't using a vibrato arm.

The parts look like they slide into place.

Heh, thanks for the comments guys. I wasn't sure if that was something stock on these old Japanese Fenders or if it was something crazy.

The guy wants a bit much for a guitar with unusual aftermarket mods, not to mention I'd end up having to swap out those MIJ pups. I'll probably pass on this one.

Probably a wise decision.

I've seen nice unmolested MIJ/CIJ Strats on Ebay for reasonable $$$......no sense in squandering a fortune on this one only to spend more just to set things right.

Have you asked the guy that's selling it what they are?

BTW, my guess would be Findley sprockets, obviously requiring a 7-inch Gangly wrench to operate.

It's a Japanese guitar, shimmilou.

"Metric".

That Gangly wrench should be a 176mm.

Since it's Japanese does the righty tighty, refty roosey still apply for those metric screws?

About ten or fifteen years ago, there was a program that required you to attach an extra pickup to your guitar.

The program was supposed to be a teaching program and allow you to transcribe anything you played. But the tracking was terrible, it didn't recognize full chords and it just generally just messed everything up.

Those brackets look like what was used to attach the pickup.

They could have also been used to attach something like a synth pickup, like the old Roland GR system.
