It's not every day I walk into a guitar shop thinking I'm about to buy a guitar, only to have the dealer ask me exactly what I want in tone, playability, and style. Customer service right? lol I guess I'm just so used to terrible customer service from basically everyone that getting actual, real service is almost strange in this day and age.

Anyway, so I walk in, seriously thinking about buying a KWS strat. I've talked to these guys a few times, they were always nice to me so I was expecting a little conversation I guess. So as I'm mulling over guitars, the owner Ian approaches me and asks me a question. "Hey, exactly what are you looking for in sound with a new guitar?"

So I tell him, basically, I'm looking for a strat that will go from srv, mayer, hendrix blues tones to scott henderson and jeff beck fusion tones.

Then he says "Well, honestly, I think your'e looking at the wrong strat".

I expected him to try to sell me a higher priced custom shop guitar, which I totally can't afford (nor do I have any business buying honestly).

So anyway, he pulls this guitar off the wall, asks me to come with him to try things out (he knows I only know about 3 chords and 2 scales from previous conversations with me so went right into demo mode without thinking). Plugs into a hot rod and starts playing a bit, tone for days, serious presence. I was so impressed. This was also a cheaper strat than the KWS. Which kinda blew me away.

I sat down, played it for about 15 minutes, checking out how many different tones I could get by rolling off the volume and tone here and there. This was my strat. I felt it, I knew it. So I busted out my wallet and told him I wanted it.

This is when I was blown away a little bit. He says "Ok, but not just yet. I'm not really thrilled about how thats playing. We need to fix that before I take a dime from you."

So he takes it into the back, pulls the neck, resets it, retunes it. "Much better" he says. He hands it to me, I go back to play it some more. He was right. Much better.

So here she is, my new Classic Player '60s Stratocaster

"Designed by Fender Custom Shop Master Builder, Greg Fessler, the ’60s Stratocaster® guitar features an alder body, C-shaped maple neck with 12”-radius rosewood fingerboard and 21 medium jumbo frets, ’69 Strat® pickups, custom two-point vintage-style tremolo, and aged knobs and switch tip."

I told him I was going to post about this and how this was the best guitar buying experience I've ever had. At that point, he insisted on taking my guitar to the back where he has a photo rig to take pics of it for me.

Ian, you're awesome if your'e reading this.

So yeah guys. Rockit Music in Brea, CA kicks all kinds of $@! and get a full on seal of approval from me. http://www.rockitmusic.com

I'm a happy happy dude right now, this strat kicks $@!!

Lovely looking Strat, Sonic Blue with a dark Rosewood board is a great combo, even the wood on the back of the neck looks gorgeous.
Fender really put a great set of specs together for that model.

Great to hear about the service at the store too.

Nice guitar and if it suits you then it's worth any price.

One thing I want to point out, though. I had to look twice to be sure, but that ain't no vintage trem on there. It's only got two pivot screws and actual vintage trems had six small screws that fastened them to the body of the guitar. The trem on your guitar looks like an American Standard to me. It's a good trem, in and of itself, but it's not true vintage.

It's certainly one of the ironies of the range, as Stratfreak correctly points out.

But it's a fine Strat indeed. And at the shop price usuallly asked for it, it's a no brainer. I bought mine (same colour/model) for under £500.00. And for the all the Mexican Strat knockers, it's probably a very inconvenient instrument!

When I set out to buy a decent Strat, it was a choice between that one and the Highway 1. I did choose the Highway (I wanted USA), but the CP60s made such an impression on me, I quickly also acquired one at a slightly later date. Now I wouldn't be without either, but if I ABSOLUTELY had to lose one, I couldn't guarantee that it would be the Highway I chose to retain..

As for the shop service, great stuff. Buy off the the internet at your peril!
