I recently purchased a "Standard American Made 2007 Stratocaster. After owning it for a few days I am quite disappointed with the standard pickups that came with the guitar, hence, I was told by my music instructor that a set of "Vintage 1969 Fender Start Pickups" would give the guitar more of the sound that I was looking for, ie; a more "Rock-A-Billy" type sound often heard during that era. Has anybody out there had a similar experience with their out of the box Stanard American Strat. Also. the set-up on the guitar from the factory out of the box was just downright awful. I am having it set-up by the local Fender dealer which probably should have been done at the out set. I dragged out a set of dividers and a ruler with very fine markings, 64th's and mm's and when I got the strings height within the factory prescribed tolerances it sounded even worse. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the guitar. Does all this sound like mostly an adjustment problem, I know it's hard to comment without seeing the guitar, it's just that, even right out of the box, the factory set-up was terrible and this Strat could not hold a candle to my 360 Ricenbacker, which I expected the Strat to blow away in terms of sound, although at this point it's quite the opposite. Finally, my bass E and A strings buzz and rattle like a tin can. Anybody who would like to trow in their 2 cents in terms of their experiences would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it just needs a good setup.

I don't care what brand of guitar or where I get it from the first thing I do to it is put my strings on it and then a complete setup to my liking.
