Hello,
I read that from an interview with Jeff Beck's set up man. Can't remember his name, that he uses Suhr pickups that I made just for him.
Do any of you know if at any point he actually used the dual coil vintage as per artist specs?
I was leaning towards this Strat more and more till I read this.
It is impossible to play and sound like him unless you are Jeff Beck.
I just figured that if the pickups in the artis series are not even close to what he uses then getting close to his signature sound will be impossible for me.
What is your take on all this and the Beck artist model with the hot vintage noiseless.
Ronald

You are right, it is impossible to sound like him unless you are Jeff Beck. I have a Beck Strat and I sound like me. It's an excellent instrument, and I would own it even if it was not a signature guitar patterned after someone else.

I just found two You Tube video from 2010.
These are the two videos that are clear and close enough to see the pickups.
Plain white, with no writing on them whatsoever.

Currently he's using SCN's. Mike Eldred mentioned a while back (maybe 18months ago) that the CS were looking to copy those Suhr pickups. The Suhr's were a one off and Beck is scarred of losing them forever when he breaks em.
Maybe worth asking M.E about.

I think the Hot Noiseless are awesome. Plenty of attack and mids. Nothing at all like Vintage Noiseless

Funny - or maybe not so funny - story about those pickups and differences in ideoms in the English language. Some one at Fender told Beck that John Suhr was "gone"; they meant of course that he left the company to found his own company. Beck interpreted it as the slang of "gone" meaning "passed away", hence his concern about replacing them.

I'm sure that they could work something out for John Suhr to recreate the pickups for Beck if they so wanted.

True. John left Fender in 1996 to found JS Technologies with Stevie Smith the following year.

In addition to electric guitars, Suhr builds also electric basses and manufactures amps, electric guitar and bass pickups & FX, as well as miscellaneous accessories.

In the recent years John introduced the radical superstrat-style 24-fret Modern to compete with other famous makers such as Ibanez, Yamaha, Jackson, Kramer and ESP who revolutionized the superstrat era since the early 1980s.

Why are the Hot Noiseless in the Jeff Beck artist strat instead of the SNC since Jeff Beck uses the latter?

Sometimes it takes a while for an artist's personal changes to catch up to the production models. For example, most of the Masterbuilt guitars Eric Clapton plays have regular tone controls instead of the TBX control but that never caught up with the production model or even the CS Teambuilt models (although I believe Clapton may have returned to using the TBX on his personal guitars).

Other artists have contractual obligations that force Fender to make changes such as Malmsteen switching from DiMarzio to Duncan pickups - although I believe Fender was allowed to use up the DiMarzio's they had in their warehouse but they switched pickups as soon as possible. Still others, like Eric Johnson, are so anal about the guitars that I'm sure any changes he was making would be quickly adopted to the production models.

However, Beck primarily still uses the first 3 or so guitars Fender built for him he probably isn't as anal about making changes as some of the other artists are (or have to be due to their other contracts) so it will take longer for his changes to catch up.

It really doesn't matter.

They could be Squier pickups and he'd still sound like he came from another planet..
