I'm seeing a few votes for a Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens Strats. To those who voted for these guitars; I'm curious what would make these guitars different or special from any other Strat of that time period; other than a signature on the head stock?

Going with that logic if Fender were to build a '50s style Strat with their names on the head stock would you still be willing to pay the extra money?

Remember these are stock guitars with no special qualities except for who played them. If you look at Fender's signature guitars they are unique to the particular player; either by looks (Rory Gallagher, Merle Haggard, and Muddy Water) or by electronics and parts (J5, EC, Jeff Beck, and James Burton).
I would go far as to say that if you were put either of these guitars in a room full of other Strats of the time period you wouldn’t know which ones they were. There would no way to tell.
I can definitely say that Buddy Holly played a very big impact on music, the Stratocaster and Fender guitars as a whole. Fender should have paid Buddy Holly for the free advertising. One could only imagine what guys like Buddy and Ritchie could have done for music.

It seems like every decade since the 50s has had players that motivated people to go out and buy Strats,in the 50s it was Buddy, the 60s Jimi, the 70s not so many but from the 80s on you had SRV,Clapton,Beck,Healy and so on.

+1    They should just dump all the sig guitars and let us make our own sig guitars and be original. I'm no fanboy of any other players guitar. I don't pretend to be what I'm not. People pretty much buy these things for bragging rights, but it seriously doesn't impress me one bit.

There is only 1 signature Strat I would consider owning, but truth be told I could take any Stratocaster and make my own with parts available for a lot less money Fender is trying to sell it for. I am happy with my guitars just line I have them now. I was considering new pickups for my Blacktop, but the current ones have grown on me.

Still I would love to see a re-issue for a 1957 Stratocaster stock.

I have to agree with 63supro. The point of guitar is to express feeling and play like no one else. Not to copy someone else and their tone.

Neal Schon is a Les Paul veteran, Gibson has produced a signature model for him many years ago.

Neal is also a huge Fender fan, Greg Feßler built a signature Strat made to his own specifications, with two reverse slanted single-coils combined together in a humbucker configuration and an original Floyd Rose locking tremolo:

However, I doubt if Fender would put the Neal Schon Stratocaster into a regular Artist production...

There is some truth to what he says ,but you cant lump everyone together .Yes there are a ton of people who buy a sig guitar for the artist, but there are some of us who like the guitar for the features.I have a SRV strat but bought the guitar for its neck,Nowhere in the Fender line do they offer a 12" radius with the tall fretwire and a vintage setup.I play classic rock mostly so I am not going for the SRV coveted sound. Now if you leave the pickgard on , thats a whole other matter.

I bought the Blackmore because I wanted a white Strat with a scalloped fretboard.
I wanted the Malmsteen but liked the Blackmore better because of the pickups(and the graduated scalloping of the Blackmore).
That way I got my dream Strat for less money than I would had to spend on buying the parts and having the fretboard scalloped.

Besides, playing a Stratocaster(any) at all is the opposite of being unique.

Cheers,
Robin

I guess i really didnt think about getting a signature guitar for the features. From the other posts i got the feeling that they would get a signaure guitar to try to sound like and be their favorite guitar hero.

I bought my EC Strat because I really love Lace Sensors, the neck and the color candy green.

Yeah , chasing tone is a funny thing. The main thing is instead of chasing after someone elses tone, develop your own sound ,that tone that is in your head and let that be your voice. Thats what its all about.
