Quick question:
Can I adjust the tone of the middle pickup? Seems to me my Highway One Stratocaster does not allow me to adjust the tone.

Is this normal?? or is there a problem on my tone knobs? No matter how I turn both the tone knobs I don't find any changes.

Please enlighten me on my new guitar :(

This is a normal feature, no tone control on mid pickup. Although if you so choose it is an easy wiring.

Your HWY1 has the "Greasebucket" tone circuit, which is a special way of wiring the pickups.

The reasons for the special wiring are:
-Allows you to roll back the tone on the bridge pickup.
-When you roll tone back, it does not allow your tone to be too muddy and bassy.

This also means that your #2 and #4 positions are really IMO cool sounding. Especially the combination of the bridge and middle pickup, you can retain the vocal mid range of the mid pickup without too much harshness from the bridge when you roll your bridge tone down. This to me is one of the coolest and funkiest sounds I have ever played with on any guitar.

Totally normal. The middle pickup on the Highway 1's and Americasn Special's have no tone control. As mentioned above, you could rewire it to utilize one of the tone pots.

Thank you for all the reply. I am glad that this is not factory defect.

Another question:
If I replace the alnico pickups on the bridge position with a Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot rail pickup. Do you think I will be able to play Heavy metal songs? and will I miss the alnico pickups on the bridge?

Since it seems to be a humbucker it'd definitely be hotter than stock. As far as what sounds good playing what, it's in anyone's ears.

I replaced my bridge pickup with a Dimarzio Super Distortion. I am sure you could play Metal with the Seymore DUncan SHR-1. As for me, I do not miss the SC Alnico III that came stock.
