The last '64 Strat that I examined with an intent to buy was an 8.5/10.0 instrument -- average used condition with all original parts (including the trem arm and "ashtray" bridge cover) and a factory refinish from the original sunburst to Lake Placid Blue performed in 1966 (nitro paint). The asking price was $10,200......not exactly garage-sale chump change (be sure to let your wife know).

I'd recommend that you have the guitar appraised by a reputable dealer of vintage instruments so you don't shortchange yourself should you decide to sell. In the interim, you might also post some pics here to garner some general input from the forum members -- many of us are intimately familiar with these older guitars and would enjoy seeing them.
