I got an American made Fender Stratocaster
made in Corona, California
says original custom body
texas special pickups
from the Z2 +6 serial number I take it was made in 2002.
If i knew how to put up a picture of it on here off my computer i would.
no visible scratches from two feet away.

I've barely played it, I prefer my Martin Acoustic.
Help me out how much would it go for?
I've read they go for $600-900 off an ebay stratocaster guide

also the pickup closest to the butt of the guitar is slanted slightly to where half of the pickup is level to the guitar body. I'm not sure if it came like this or what. Either way im sure it is a quick fix if it is a problem.

thank you to anyone with helpful information.

For an estimate which would be reflective of similar guitars of the same model and year, you must post photo's which are clear in focus, so that the serial number can be read, the logo's are clearly legible and close enough that the guitar can be seen as to having any damage if any.
This would be photo's of the neck, head, body front and back, hardware etc...8 to 10 photo's.

If you can obviously use a computer, you can upload photo's to photobucket or other cloud web and copy and paste them to your thread posts. Posting links doesn't always work for everyone as often something posted from the US is unable to be viewed elsewhere.

As I posted earlier, it is simpler for all of us on this forum to be able to view the photo's directly on this thread, not to have to linkup, I could not scroll backwards thru the pics.
Also there are no close up photo's of both the head logo's and of the back of the headstock with the serial number clearly visible.
Some of the members on this forum are quite knowledgeable and can tell you quickly wether a strat was modified or is stock.

As far as the bridge pup, it is not adjusted properly height wise pole to string, so when demo-ing, you would not get a true representation of the guitar's sound and you may believe mistakenly that it is a dud.
The trem looks to be out of balance regarding string gauge to spring tension. It should not be tilted so far. Another adjustment which would need to be done to get a clear idea of the guitar.

As far as ask price, cannot really guess without knowing for sure what the serial number correlates to on the Fender data. If it has been modified ( the guitar ) then a lower price may be applicable. But need more info.

If having problems uploading do a search on this forum, there are a few recent step by step explanations of how to cut/copy and paste your photo's to your posts.

Well, it looks like you've got a 2002 American Series Strat with rosewood fretboard and Schaller staggered tuners (non-locking).
The silver color body doesn't match the color selection for an American Series Texas Special, so I have to wonder what makes you think the pups are Texas Specials?
It appears to be in good shape (assuming the neck is straight and frets are good).
If the chainsaw case comes with it, I'd feel comfortable paying $700.00 for it, but certainly no more than that. If you can verify the pearl pickguard with Texas Special pups is original, you might squeeze another $50.00 out of it. Personally, I prefer Lace Sensors, so Texas Specials have no value to me other than resale, perhaps. If it turns out they are not original, then you are back down to $600.00 to $650.00 for a modded guitar. Weird, I know, but I prefer to do my own mods...

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input wrvond when i put it on ebay I'll probably start the bidding at $650. I just would like yall to get a closer look at it.

The man who sold it to me new at a convention center told me it had texas special pickups but im really not sure as you can tell im no guitar expert.

There is a problem with my pickups isn't there?

There's probably nothing wrong with the pickup. The screws at each end are used to adjust the height of the pickup. The closer to the string, the higher the output, up to a point. The position of the pickup relative to the strings also affects the tone of the output.
These screws pass through the pickguard, through some kind of spring/spacer (usually a bit of surgical tubing) and then screw into the frame of the pickup itself. If the screw is adjusted out too far, the spacer will fall out and the pickup will not sit firmly in place, even if the screw is somehow re-threaded into the pickup. If this is the case, the only real way to correct it is to remove the pickguard, locate the errant spacer, and re-intall the screw. Don't worry, you have five other examples to look at under there.
The easiest way to remove the pickguard -
1. relieve tension on the strings, it isn't necessary to remove them from the tuners, if you do, you'll probably have to replace them.
2. turn the guitar over and remove the tremolo cover on the back.
3. remove the (probably three) springs inside. They have loops at one end to attach to the "claw" and "hooks" that fit into the small holes in the bridge block. Remove them by hand by firmly pulling the "hook" ends out of the bridge block.
4. slide your hand under the guitar face and hold the bridge in place while turning the guitar over to lie face up.
At this point the bridge is just laying in place, the two pivot screws are not attached to the bridge plate, it is held in place by string and spring tension.
5. carefully lift the bridge assembly back and up away from the guitar. It might take a bit of wriggling it to get it to come away. Careful, it is easy to drop and ding your guitar.
6. set the bridge assembly with strings attached off to the side
7. remove the screws around the perimeter of the pickguard. Do not remove the knobs or screws near the pickups or 5 way switch.
8. lift the pickgaurd straight up. There will be a couple wires attached to the guitar body, so it won't lift really high.
9. Flip it over, and identify the pickup adjustment screw that is loose. If necessary, locate the yellow tubing inside the body cavity and reinstall it on the adjustment screw.
10. Replace everything in the reverse order of removal. Do not over-tighten any of the screws.

If this seems to difficult, then stop by the store, pick up a $7.00 set of strings, remove the old ones, then remove the pickguard and replace the spacer. Reinstall and put on the new strings.

Hope this helps.

Here's a link to the service diagram for your guitar. It should help things make sense to you.

http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/stratocaster/011-7400_02A_SISD.pdf

As far as the pups are concerned, look on the backs for a sticker that say Custom Shop Texas Specials. Otherwise, the only way to tell is to be an expert on bobbin material, number of windings, resistance, and other markings of the coils.

Hah, I just got done taking my entire guitar apart only to get scared at the last step that i was going to break something and ruin my expensive guitar. The pick guard wouldnt come far enough off to let me get to the pups. Now the pickup closest to the neck is sunkin in too. I don't want to lower the value of this guitar so I think I'm better off taking it into a shop. Thanks alot for your help it was a good walk thru. You think 650 is a good starting bid for this guitar on ebay?

from what i ve heard alot of people like to put there guitars at a starting bid for a dollar because it starts out so cheap a lot of people will start to bid on it only problem is you can possibly sell the guitar for less then you want to.

you could put in a buy it now option for 900 dollars and an option for offers.

Guitars are funny critters when it comes to selling 'em. Not to talk yours down, but it isn't old enough to be considered a collectable or relic, so the rust at the screws would likely be perceived in a negative light. Excluding the possibility the pups are Texas Specials (without proof, they aren't), it really isn't anything special to anybody but you. Even the case is one of the least expensive Fender cases around. So you don't want to over-price it.
OTOH you don't want to leave money on the table. You do have to fix the pups before posting it. They just look bad all out of kilter like that. I'd strongly recommend going back in and fixing them yourself, rather than spending your profit on having somebody else do it. Nothing to be scared of, just put a towel between the guard and the body to protect from potential scratches.
Buy it now of 900 with Make An Offer isn't a bad tactic at all. At a minimum, I'd start it at 700 with BIN of 800. Make sure you weigh it accurately as it is going to ship (box and packing), so the shipping is accurate. Nothing puts me off bidding more than high shipping.

Your last post suggests that you definitely need to take it to a reputable shop. Find a music store (small not a GC ) that carries an extensive Fender line. A small store that has been in business many years will have a skilled repair tech who can readjust your guitar, check intonation, as well as adjusting pole to string height. Check neck relief and the entire fretboard for any errant string buzzing.
I'm not against G.C. but because of their size, they are predominantly a volume based retail store, I really don't consider them a true music instrument store. Thus if you bring in your guitar to be adjusted at GC you may get a great tech or you may not, at a small music store, you will get a more personal interaction where the tech will be willing to offer insights about your guitar.

As far as your guitar is concerned, great last batch of pics, if you still feel confident to perform just the minor adjustments, I strongly recommend picking up " The Fender Stratocaster Handbook " by Paul Balmer ( ISBN-13: 978-0-7603-2983-2 )
Balmer explains in great detail set ups as well as various models and their particulars.

Your strat looks in great shape, but $900 is too high. If I was a buyer, it is still a 2002 Standard Strat, the addition of Texas Specials would not justify a markup of $200 to $300 as I
would buy it according to comparable models sell price.
$600-$650 is a good starting point, set it up as a reserve so that if you don't meet your minimal ask price the strat doesn't go for a ridiculously low price and you can then post it on Craig's list or anywhere else for close to that price or a bit higher, if unsuccessful on E-Bay.

Taking apart your guitar should have been only, (1) remove strings (2) remove pickguard screws (3) lift pickguard and flip over carefully so not to pull on wiring (3) reconnect screw and spacer to pickup (4) replace pickguard.
Put a new (10's ) set of strings on, wind the strings over and under, 2-3 winds on the post, cut the excess, run your high E and B string under the string tree, bring to pitch and that would be it.
Intonation, neck relief, ( as in adjustment of truss rod if needed ) should be done by a reputable tech.

Good Luck

i'm not sure if this topic is still open but i thought i would drop in anyway. i've got a 1964 strat that i bought when i was 14 years old. i was terrible at learning how to play it so it has not been used very much. basically iy has just sat in it's case sitting under my bed for the past 30+ years. it has a few little dings but they are barely visible. i still have the original receipt and little introductory book that came with it. i believe the serial numbers are printed on the back but i would have to look. it is sunburst with a light oak colored neck with a dark oak inlay for the frets. i actually think there might be a couple of fender pics still in the case. the case is black. even though i don't play guitar, i have kept all these years because i loved the way it looked. it was also the first big thing i purchased with my own earned money. i still get tingles when i open the case to look at it. i am 60 years old now and have been thinking that maybe i should sell it just in case i die and my wife puts it out in a garage sale. if i get a response that this topic is still active i could post some pictures for anyone to take a look at.
