I concur with everything that has been said here.

I own a 1986 BC Rich Assassin ST-III which at the time was the first guitar to copy a strat for neck and feel and pickup configuration. The BC Rich I have is a hum sing sing pup config. I have owned this guitar from new and was bought in 1987.

Now with that said it is still my favourite guitar to play and I also own a Dean Evo Special and an Ibanez RG320EX in the new 2007 red arctic frost.

Yesterday I ordered a Lone Star Strat in the Olympic white finish. I have always wanted a Strat and now I getting one. I am excited about getting this guitar more so then I was about the Dean and the Ibanez. I am primarily a metal player but I d dabble in classic rock ,country and blues on occasion as well. So the Strat is the perfect guitar for those genres of music.

A Stratocaster can be a lot of different guitars. If you want a hum-cancelling, thick full Blues tone, a Strat in neck mid with the tone knobs down and a Fender tube amp will do it. Then, if you want to chime, turn up the tone knobs and down the gain. I fyou want bright vintage or country, go with bridge and up the treble. A Strat can do pretty much whatever you want.

Ibanez has been making more frets - 24 and such. Just bend the string and you get the same place at the 22d fret.

Imho, Ibanez is a technocratic company without authenticity or the feel. A few of their models capable guitarists like Vai swear by, and so for that type of sound you have to say they are okay.

If you say that Ibanezs have no feel at all, you must have never played one. I love both my Fender Strat and an Ibanez RG but the RG is my go-to guitar. It feels a lot better than the Strat, and the Strat still feels amazing.

If you're into modern rock/metal music, you need to get at least one Ibanez, preferably an S-series.

Strat-style body, superior neck for shredding, pickups more suited for modern music.

Despite what the say in the Squier forum (*laughs*) equipment does make a difference. Stop stop. Please don't tell that tired old fable about Van Halen / Clapton sounding like Van Halen / Clapton through a solid state / cheapo amp.

My standard comeback is: you're no Van Halen so get the gear that makes it easy to get the tones you want. That VanHalen/Claptop fable is what club players tells one another because they can't afford the real American Fender gear.

But I digress. But back to Ibanez.

Pick the gear that makes your life easier for whatever style of music you're trying to play. And for the modern stuff, that's an Ibanez. For other kinds of music, that's Fender.

If you want a decent Ibanez thats comparable to a Strat, try an SA. HSS pickup config. and non-locking trem. I sold mine a few months ago in favor of a Strat though. The SA was VERY thin and light, too much for my tastes.

Ibanez Japanese built guitars are of very high quality and the Korean models are decent. They build too many Indonesian and Chinese models that are just awful. but some wind up ok. I'm a member of the Ibanez forum too, they (including myself) complain about the quality control of the Indonesian, Chinese and Korean guitars a lot there too. I wouldn't say that the quality is always better, I've played some Ibanez guitars that I feel are better... but mainly in the same price range.

Well, it's true if you're willing to lay down a grand for an electric you're probably going to get a decent sounding and playing guitar...no matter what the brand. (One of those arguments towards "play it before you pay for it...ah well...anyways...)

I will give Ibanez this, though. If I was playing a lot of LEAD guitar and exclusively LEAD guitar....I'd be sorely tempted to go with the Ibanez.

But then again....for that same price? If I was looking at something with humbuckers and a Floyd Rose...well, there's a ton of guitar brands that are in that same genre.

But, as the OP stated...he was looking for something he'd be playing a lot of rhythm on.

And on that note? Eh, sorry Ibanez, but neither that brand, nor any of the others of that type of guitar can compare with a strat when it comes to laying down rhythm guitar.

Now, of course, someone could state "Hey, that's just your opinion", but if you look at all of the great rhythm guitar players, or even delved into funk guitar...you start to see more and more strats employed and fewer of the other rigs out there.

I thinking about getting a stanard strat in black. I a bass player but i am pretty good at rythym guitar. I wanted to get the strat but I saw an Ibanez RG which was in the sam color and maple neck. They both cost the same. Which should I get.

I was holding on to a friend's RG for a while. I never really warmed up to it. I did play with it for a while though since I had access to it. He recently moved out of town for a new job and took back the Ibanez since we probobly wouldn't be jamming together any more. I was jonesing for an electric axe so I decided to invest in one. I tried many brands, the second best that felt good to me that was in my budget was the Gibson SG. The guitar that most strummed my heart strings though was my new American Deluxe Strat. Even among the Strats there are several levels of quality standards. But as to which is better between an Ibanez and Strat... doesn't that really involve what you want to sound like? HSS Strats are wonderful but even they are a departure from the "pure" Strat sound of the single coil pickups. Do you want a crisp, soulfull sound like Clapton, Hendrix or even John Mayer? Get a Strat. Do you want to do heavy metal dive bomb through hot humbuckers? If so maybe even an HSS series Strat might not have the firepower you want. Personally I am getting it all through the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups and the S-1 switching system on the American Deluxe Strat. It's very versatile. The sound can sparkle like ice or rage with wild fire distortion without the 60 cycle hum. I'm happy!

I own an American Fender Deluxe with an ASH body and rosewood neck - 2005 model. I love this thing. Of course I did have it set up by a pro, and after a while, I had a fret redress, and it palys like butter.

I recently purchased an Ibanex RG2550E. Out of the box, the frets were rough, I took it and had it set up, and had a tremsetter installed as well. It does not begin to match the tone of the Fender. It does have a fast neck.

I am going to sell it so that I can purchase another Deluxe with a maple neck this time, or I may try to dig a little deeper and go for a custom shop.

I'm just a Fender guy... I've played many brands of guitars, and to me, I just don't like anything but my Fender.

Did I mention that I love my Fender? .....lol

definitely a strat.
i have 2, 06 hwy 1 sss,3tone sunburst
06 am standard strat white rw fret board
ibanez gax 70 mohagony color,HH.
i could still play blues with the ibanez, however, when the strat plugs in, it blows it away.
the ibanez sounds good w distortion or fuzz.

I agree. I can get so many different tones with my deluxe, and it actually sounds much better than Ibanez's stock PU's. The one thing that I do like about the Ibanez prestige series is the neck, but it's no faster to me really than the neck on my fender.
