The way I figure it, if you're paying for a pedigree, you want all the pedigree papers for all the obvious reasons and then some.

I'd very leary of said guitar. It looks great, but who knows what your getting. I'm glad you asked this question before you paid for it. Unlike some folks who asked, "Did I get ripped off?" after the fact.

Also think about how the "owner" got the guitar.

No case or paperwork? I could easily imagine that this guitar was stollen during a show or from someone's house. You might be buying stollen property.

That guitar most likely wasn't acquired honestly as others have stated or else the owner would have all the pertainent parafernalia with it.I kept all the hang tags and case candy etc. from my 50th ann. Strat so I imagine someoine who bought a Custom Shop Strat legitimately would do the same.

I'm 99.9% sure it's legitimate. Body cavities and neck heel are in keeping with CS guitars. But check, get a picture of the middle pickup neck route. There should be a serial no' in there that will match a serial no' on the neck heel. Also post it on the CS section of the forums for Mike Eldred to check.

If that is all present and correct, pounce on it like a ravenous puma. You can get a case and certificate later. Which the seller probably sold seperate.
One hell of a bargain at that price, CS for sub £1K.

Didn't they start to put the spacer under the string tree in 1960. If it's NOS, I figured the Fender Custom Shop would get that right.

That Strat looks legit to me but without the original case, case candy and paperwork, I wouldnt buy it. Anyone who buys a guitar of that quality and cost is going to keep the receipts, paperwork and probably everything else that came with it, to pass to the next buyer.

By the way... I have all of the paperwork, hang tags and the still sealed pkg of case candy from my EJ Strat, stored away in a file cabinet and the guitar lives in it's Fender case.

thanks for all the tips.

So basically it looks like the real thing.... but without paper work its a bit fishy. He has got loads of other guitars on his site with cases and certificates....

Would the customshop team be able to send another certificate if i could prove it?

Yes they would but you'd have to get the shop where it was sold from originally to request it.

Nevin lots of bodies come that way from what I've seen. I think if they decide the finish is too pretty to relic, they don't bother.

Should there be any concern over the neck heel stamp '61 Strat' on this 1960 NOS?

Also, did this guy really put this guitar face down on a hard surface with the whammy bar installed? Dude!!

You really need to address this with Mike Eldred. It's all not unusual and all you're getting here is speculation. At least Mike will run the numbers and tell you whats what for definite.
