I picked up a used Jimmie Vaughan Signature Strat while away on a trip recently. I've been trying to figure out exactly when it was made ever since. The serial number begins with MSN5 and then five digits. I've learned the M is because it was made in Mexico and the S is because it is a Signature Series guitar. I've heard the N is supposed to mean it was made in the 90s and the 5 is for the fifth year. That would make it a '95 but Fender didn't start making the Jimmie Vaughan Signature Strat until 1997. Besides, the guitar I have looks a lot newer than that. I've also read that you can't necessarily tell the date on the Signature guitars from the serial number which apparently reveal more about when the particular series was first produced than when any one guitar was built. I've taken off the back plate on the guitar and found a sticker with a "G" on it. I wonder if that gives a clue about the date. If anyone has any ideas about when this guitar was made I'd really appreciate some help.

Blessings,
Jon <><

I have had many guitars like that. Did you take the neck off and look at the heel of the neck for a date?

Drop Ed Treat an EMail

EDIT (EMail changed): consumerrelations@fender.com

They will write you the exact date of production.

Cheers,
Robin

....as much as I like Ed Treat, :O) ( i do, really!!) It's alot better to send the emails to consumerrelations@fender.com so its certain that it gets answered (unless you're already exchanging emails of course!). If Ed, (or someone else emailed direct) goes on vacation, is sick, or in Ed's case, is imminently moving to another department, you may not get as quick of a response as you might hope for.

just sayin' ;O)

cheers,
rob

Thanks for the helpful information. I knew I could take the neck off and find out but I didn't want to do that. I couldn't find an email address on the Fender website so the Customer Relations email is exactly what I was looking for. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
