I really don't understand tributes or signature models. All of their guitars started out as a base model guitars that was modified. Some more than others. Fender makes these guitars, puts a high price on it, and people buy them because of a namesake. Buy a base model and modify it yourself. If you don't know how, I'm sure somebody on this forum could make it happen for you.

I would rather say, "my guitar has the same pickups as the Eric Clapton model", or "my guitar has a gold left handed bridge like the SRV model", than to spend the extra money to buy one of these expensive models.

I used to have a Tradition Michael Batio No Boundaries Signature. I didn't buy it because of the namesake. It was pawn shop guitar that I paid $275 for. It didn't matter that it was a signature model or that his actual signature was on the back of the headstock, but I guess it did matter to the thieves that stole it. I bought it because it played good.

Peace.

I'm of two minds on this. I own and love my EC Strat I bought because I really love everything about it. I would have bought it no matter who's name was on it. I also really dig Andy Summer's Tele. Instead of paying up to $10K I built mine for about $1.3K (parts and labor included). Finally I've played some signature models and some of them don't really impress me. As for a Ike Turner model I just don't see the need. It's a sonic blue Strat from about '62. Having said that; that is my dream guitar.

I would buy one only if I could not get the options on any other model. Or I did not want to build it myself. I used to really like the Richie Sambora Strat MIM. I didn't get one because I built a Jackson with a Floyd Rose.

To go back to the original post...

I own one of these. A wonderful guitar. As far as I know, it is simply a CS 60's NOS strat, on which they added Ike's signature (in gold ink) on the upper horn.

I don't know for what reason, but most websites say it is Daphne blue where as in fact it is Sonic blue (as stated in the official Fender specs: "Colors: (028) Sonic Blue, (“Thinskin” Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish)"). However, even Fender specs are sometimes incorrect (at least for mine) since instead of the stated "3-Ply Mint Green", mine has the regular 3-Ply White of the 60s NOS CS.

I got mine for a steal (well, almost  ). I got it new for 25% less than a regular CS 60s NOS Strat (call it the "Ike discount"). However, since, I have seen some 2nd hand ones go for as high as £2000, which is far more than what a regular 2nd hand CS 60s NOS Strat would fetch ( go figure!).

Aside from that, it sounds fantastic. Put the 3-way selector in any of the two in-between position and you get instant EC "blackie" "Just One Night" sound. Amazing!

FYI, the Fender specs for this guitar (sent to me by someone at Fender HQ):

I would not buy anything related to Ike Turner, he was a wife beater, what a he-man! I would never think of hitting a woman, I would however beat a wife beater

Sonic Blue Strats from the early 60´s are way cool!
I´m surprised to learn of this Ike Turner model, I would not have cleared it for ethical reasons.
I also dream of this guitar! Couldn´t care less about Ike Turner.
