Hey guys, just wondering if any of you could confirm to me that this is a legitimate strat?

The seller provided me with a serial number (Z9394278). And he also states that he has the owners manual and registration card. And it also comes with the Fender Multi-Fit Standard Molded Case.

I dont know why, I'm just a bit wary as to whether it is a legitamte Fender American Standard. Thanks Guys :)

Yeah i have checked it on a website, and it is a legit serial number. But can't they just put real serial numbers onto fake guitars??

Looks legit to me ask the seller if he has a photo of the serial number you can sometimes tell by the way the serial number looks on the headstock, but you could you on and on trying to authenticate it.

You could email consumerrelations@fender.com with the serial number they will give you details as to what model guitar it should be.

Also read the sellers feedback you hve doubts already see if this puts you at ease about the seller and the guitar.

I'm not too familiar with the American Standard guitar, but it looks ok to me. I think the photographer has somehow managed to elongate that picture. Giving the funny appearance to the body of the guitar. It looks very thin and stretched.
The 12th fret dots do look too close together. But on closer inspection of the photo, the strings intersect the dots at the right point.
The walnut dowel at the headstock for truss rod access is the big giveaway. I can't recall ever seeing a fake guitar where the counterfeiter had gone to such trouble.

Looks ok to me and the case is in keeping with the guitar too. Not saying it couldn't be fake, just that it is very highly unlikely. If that is a fake, then the amount of work that's gone into it justifies the price.
I think it's a safe buy. As always, it's worth a trip to Manchester to put a hand on the thing before laying out cash.

wow! thanks for the detailed reply! :) yeah admittedly it does look 100% legit. I only live about half an hour away from manchester, so I would go and pick it up.

It's very simple, If something doesn't feel right then walk away.

Ask the seller for more photos and one with the S/N printed clearly. Remember others might be asking the same questions and if he's not willing to do that for you then you'd be better off away from it. An Ebay purchase is a pig in a poke and I certainally don't recommend buying anything over $200 bucks unless it comes from an established dealer. I've read some real horror stories and I'd hate for you to spend good money on something that might turn out to be a disaster.

My advice is to save your money and buy a new one.
