I have a hotrail in the neck and bridge of my strat. I have it wired up so it is split in 2 and 4 position like this diagram http://tinyurl.com/3kwcwth

I really like the sound of both 2 and 4 positions, but the volume is much lower. What can I put in the middle to raise the volume but keep the strat sound of 2,3,4? Any suggestions appreciated!

Welcome.

The simplest and most obvious thing to do would be to drop another Hot Rails (or anything more powerful than what's in their now) in the middle position.

Thanks. I'm afraid of losing the strat sound if I do another hot rail. I bought a texas special so I'm going to try that first.

I was wondering if a lace sensor might work out? I need something hotter than stock but not quite like another humbucker

I wouldnt worry about losing the strat sound by throwing in a third rail.

The Billy Corgan Strat has 3 hot rails and the 2 and 4 positions sound remarkably Strat-like. Quacky and everything. There is a bit of a drop in volume though.

The middle pickup in the BC is a Dimarzio Chopper.

The thing that confuses me is that in 2 and 4 there are 3 coils activated (1 from outer pickup, both from Chopper), and yet there's no hum at all, but that's beside the point.

Id say try a BC Strat to get a feel for it.

Good luck!

Thanks, I will have to try a BC strat. Do you think the volume drop will be as much it is now with the american standard middle pickup?
