I have a beautiful Custom Shop Strat I have bought new from Rich Hunt Guitars in So Cal and I am trying to get a feel for it's value. I've heard it's rare with the sunburst finish. Best playing elecgtric guitars I've played and it has unbeleivable sustain and wram tone (blue, silver and red lace senson pickups.)

SER # CN200183

Have an idea of it's value?

I'd say 30,000,000,000,0000,000 dollars if its a 92 neck through Stratocaster

183rd Custom Shop guitar, mayhaps..?

Who knows... it's worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it. I saw #15 on eBay for $17,500. Still hasn't sold though!

I think you may be talking about the "Set Neck Strat"?

Hi ralanege, welcome to the Forum.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see pictures if you care to post them, please? Then we'll have more to go on for some pricing suggestions. Sounds like a fascinating guitar!

Cheers - C

Set Neck Strat with black finish, QMT and Lace "Ultra" wiring?

The guitar you're talking about has an original FR tremolo and a matching reverse headstock.

The only one I know of is that 1983 Proto which never commercially materialized:

Never saw this bird.

It's a very rare, souped-up version of the Gold Elite Strat with dual humbuckers & gold-plated pickup bezels, 3-way toggle switch, two volumes for each pickup, TBX and MDX boosts.

The humbuckers are coil-open with exposed poles and black bobbins, a feature the Elite Telecaster lacked off.

This guitar has a 22-fret ebonol fretboard with a 9,5" radius and white pearloid cross inlays. The 22-fret neck was a feature very uncommon for an American-made Strat from that era.

US-made 22-fret neck Stratocasters didn't came into surface until the American Standard series being introduced in 1986. Also, I suppose only a very limited batch of these prototypes was made before the Fullerton plant closing its doors in 1984.

This guitar featured the infamous freeflyte tremolo hated by many players.

We can build this guitar as a Masterbuilt, but the control layout and electronics would be different - master volume w/ S-1 switch, master TBX and MDX (0-25dB), 5-way selector switch, 2-way mini toggle active/passive switch. Solid walnut body with quilted maple wings, all neck-through construction.

Instead of a barebones jack this guitar will feature the standard Stratocaster recessed oval jackplate. It will also sport black anodized flat-top knurled knobs for the master volume and active tone controls.

As for the pickups, an Atomic humbucker in the bridge and an Enforcer in the neck. We also replace the ill-fated freeflyte bridge with a gold-plated Fender deluxe locking tremolo w/ LSR nut and Fender locking tuners for optimal tuning stability.
