Hi,

I know this is really about going out and playing the guitars but going into the price bracket of an american 62 hot rod

http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/productd ... 4697&c=104

could land you with a low end non relic customshop like this

http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/productd ... 0625&c=105

What would be a better guitar for the money?

I never learned how your money relates to US $...but I have a '62 Hot Rod Strat and I would take it over the CS guitar,to me the '62 is a great guitar for the money.
I've played and owned many Strats over the years including an original '65,after all those, the '62 HR is my alltime favorite.

That was just as an example. But in what way?

It seems like with the hot rod you get the nitro finish, vintage quality pick up, satin back finish on neck, vintage tuners etc but there are customshop examples like this but the prices are more? why>

The hot rod has amazing build quality and modern features, the custom shop you are paying extra for better woods like the ash body and birdseye maple neck. Its personal preference but I would buy the hotrod (but not at this price) or a secondhand relic.

I own a 57 Hotrod and a Custom Classic.

I can't pick one above the other. Very different guitars.
