Hi guys

Hard considering between

AVRI57 vs HR57

I heard that AVRI 57 comparatively dont gain distortion much.

Is that true? Hard to metal or rock with AVRI 57?

Thanx

I agree with Robinstrat that you can play anything on anything. It also depends on your definition of "metal tone".

Now, is an AV '57 going to drive the amp hard on it's own - no. You're not going to get a hard rock/metal tone from an AV Strat into a non-master volume amp without some help from pedals like Hendrix. I'm almost positive that Malmsteen, who's tone is fairly clean, also uses some pedals to get where he wants. It will drive a master volume amp (or any amp with an internal gain circuit like a Boogie) well enough for old-school hard rock/metal without any pedals.

The Hot Rod '57 will push the amp harder than the AV '57 simply because the pickups, particularly the bridge pickup, are higher output. The Hot Rod '57's pickups are also noiseless, which will help in recording with lots of gain (which of course will add noise to the circuit). The other key difference in the two is the neck shape - the Hot Rod neck is a bit slimmer and has a modern radius and larger frets - they have very different feel.
