I'd have to agree with my fellow Canuck Nevin-the L series Strats-'62-'65 were the best sounding and playing Strats ever made.Although there were some that didn't quite make the grade,by and large the L series were fabulous guitars.You can tell this by listening to some of Jimi's clean studio work that was mostly done using L series Strats.They had a clear bell like tone that no other Strats possessed.

Call me crazy, and it's not so much my style, but my favorite is John Frusciante's 62 sunburst strat.
