I have a Standard MIM strat and i had the back plate off then i changed the pickguard and put on heavier strings. after i did that the bridge was raised up higher than i usually is so i looked on the back where the springs are and ther is 4 there. Is there supposed 5 cause there is a spot for another spring

Well, usually when you put bigger strings on you have to tighten everything up to compensate for the new tension. Depending on how big you went, you might have to add that fifth spring or maybe just tighten the claw up some.

My advice would be to do both, add the fifth spring and then tighten the claw up some, this will help greatly with keeping your guitar in tune, plus you might hear a difference in tone, whether that is good or bad difference, only you can decide.

That's what happens when you put on thicker strings.

It knocked your intonation off too.

You have to loosen the tuning, screw in the claw screws, retune and check your bridge height/intonation. REPEAT until the bridge height and intonation are back where you had it (which assumes your intonation was "in" and the height was a good one).
