What do you guys think about thisImage

Shouldn't it be 9-14-87 ?

On the neck pocket it says H. Cuevas and the date is a bit smudged (whatever?). I have another '87 and it does not mention a name there. The holes look right though I think. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not 100% but whenever I've taken my necks off my Strats (lots), I'm almost certain they've had strokes instead of dashes between the numbers.

On a side note, that neck is nearly 2 years older than me.

WHAT I KNOW:
Date at heel of neck:
In the 50s and 60s they looked like 11-57 or 3-62 (always handwritten)
mid 60s to early 80s had stamps like 22MAR73B, where as "B" is "standard nut"

I own an '87 and it is 05-18-87 (handwritten), looks right to me.

This one though is /'s The headstock looks right even though the decal is a little close to the edge there imo...Any of you gurus have a take on that one? :)

Thanks!

Hi 616465: well until the gurus turn up my take is this. H Cuevas is a perfectly familiar sight to find in the pocket, so all's fine so far as that goes. And regarding the heel: we just learned that whoever was pulling necks off the line for dating that day favored dashes rather than hyphens. I've never heard of a protocol that says Fender specifies the use of hyphens.

Is there any reason you think the neck might not have originally come with the body? If not, don't sweat it further - though you are welcome to show us more pix of the neck for detective purposes if you wish. Be forewarned: there will always be someone wanting to claim that there's something "not quite right" about the shape of the headstock or the placement of the decal or whatever. You want to have the appropriate pinches of salt ready if you ask for public opinions on those sorts of things.

Now. Before you put that neck back on would you just remove that little splinter of wood from the heel, please? I trust that's not stuck to the original lacquer, is it?

Cheers - C
