My strat plus came from the factory with a floating trem that has 2 springs and a hipshot tremsetter. It has 9 gauge strings and it always stays in tune. It also came with locking tuners and a roller nut to help it stay in tune. In the 20+ years I have owned it I have never had a problem with it going out of tune.

Ditto, but sometimes use 9.5 half steps.

Here's what it sounds like :

'91 Mexican tricked out Strat w/ texas specials and JB/SH4 through
a Fender Pro Jr mic'd with an SM-57. Effects are from a Korg PX5D.

Have a great Independence Day!!! :D

All my Strats, and other Strat like objects (except my Burns Batwing), have 3 springs with a floating bridge. Strings are a standard 10-46 set, D'Addario or Ernie Balls.

In all my Vintage-style tremolo guitars: 3 springs in a l l l pattern, decked, and with 10's. On my one guitar with the Floyd: three springs in a \l/ pattern, tremolo floating dead level, and using 9's.

+1

I use Ernie Ball 10-46 and have the bridge just barely floating (i.e. just over 1/16" ), and I use 3 springs in an upside-down V like this: / | \

all 4 of my strats have 3 springs and trems are decked and set to float down and they stay in tune alot. i use the stock strings they are ok but never break
and i just bought a SX Vintage Series '62 strat copy but its ok for a lil $199 dollar guitar. i really wanted another Strat after my HSS's humbucker quit on me Replaced the humbucker with a Seymour Duncan 59 classic

4 like this = II II . I use 10's . I have the edge butt of the claw (closest to neck) about 3/4" or just a little less from the inside wall of the route. That makes it easy for me to make the bridge float about 1/16 off the body. I do not use the tremlo. I do not know how to describe exactly the sound of the springs when they are set up the way I have them- BUT they do have a certain dull thud ring to them. I prefer hearing that and then I know I have them how I like them. That gives me the spring sound you can hear coming from inside the body. I'll put the cover on the route or have it off. That doesn't matter too much to me. So it's not just the amount of springs-- it also has to do with how you want it set up and what kind of sound you like and what string tension you want. It goes on and on that way with the ole Strats'. :D
