What's the thing about leaving labels on pickguards and trem covers? . I just don't get it. The pickguard/trem cover , won't discolour under it and if a new owner removes it, he's left with an ugly white (or black), patch . Surely everyone knows if it was made in the US or not, so what is it.. Ted

Ummm, everyone I know removes the label and protective wrap from the pickguard unless they are too dense to realize it all comes off.

I know that, but it's just I've seen so many "here's my new second hand MIM/USA" , and a heck of a lot of 'em still have said labels on them and some of them must be a few years old. Ted

Fender could just use hang tags (possibly laminated for keeping). I even take off that little black dot with "CE" on it. 'certified for Europe'

Maybe some people think that there's something cool about it just as some think it's cool to spend $2000 for a QMT Strat and then put stupid AC DC and Stones stickers all over it.

Maybe they're all descendants of Minnie Pearl.

Taking that plastic off the guitar is the first thing I do. I bought a used Strat and it was a real pain getting off.

I've asked many a player. The answers I've received (in order of popularity) are:
1. So just in case I sell the guitar or the pickguard, it will look newer.
2. As a badge that it is American made.
3. I can't be bothered removing them.
4. I like the look.
5. They come off?

You can't make this stuff up.

i know a few people who leave the wrap on their pickguards and i looks terrible and when you leave a sticker or wrap on for long enough a layer of adhesive is left behind that is hard to remove.

I think guitars look awful when wrap is left on it and it starts to peel and bubble up. A scratched pickguard looks better

My friend peels the stickers off and put them on a note card and puts it in his case

I bought a '99 MIM in '06 and the dude still had the backplate cover on it. Not good, the plate was yellow underneath, and even after a goo gone remover, the sticky stuff stil reamined. I finally had to replace the backplate. Lesson is, take the plastic off as soon as possible.
