I agree with jeffnles1. Post his information here (hopefully an email address too). After a few hundred email complaints, he might make it right. I would also direct your problem directly to Fender. Work at it from both ends so to speak...

Here's some examples of my second attempt on a different strat.

I folded masking tape over onto itself to make it double sided and covered the pup's with it to get the filings from the steel wool, but also utiliized my magnet to clean up the rest.

Looks great. Still don't like the magnet idea though.
