Hi Sam: just bumping this so's it finds a few more eyes.

But frankly I wouldn't hold your breath. Where we live those cases not thick on the ground, second hand, are they? My curiosity was piqued and I've been on a little tour of the usual places one might search for such a thing, and... not a sausage. I guess anyone who has one wants to keep it, or sell it with a guitar inside.

You might just have to spring for a new one, I'm afraid. Is this for that new white Strat of yours? Show us pictures when you've put the two together, won't you? :)

Cheers - C

Alright C,

Yeah they're a bugger to find! Got links on a few new ones. It's not for whitey- the white Strat is no more. Couldn't get along with the EMGs or (whisper it!) the vintage-style bridge. So that's going to the great eBay auction in the sky.

The case will be for the incoming new toy. Pics will be arriving when necessary. ;) I already have cases for the other two, just want the last one so my trio of Strats will all have nice, hard cases!

Man - that didn't last long!

Well. It's important to know what we do and don't like: can't take issue with that. Waiting with interest to see what's coming next...

Cheers - C

I know. I've worked out that I'm definitely more of an organic single-coil & humbucker kind of fella. Tried it against the gold Lone Star I have, and the golden boy blew the white elephant into the weeds. Shocking result! Just preferred the sound of the Texas Specials. They've got a much nicer dynamic feel, as well as not being overly blaring. Even my girlfriend could hear the difference! The PRS has gone this week too...

The new toy has cleared Customs. I'm waiting for the Note of Doom to drop through the door to see how much I owe. Very close though...

Am I remembering right - your EMGs were KH20s? Never met those in person; are they active or passive?

I'd never been interested in active pickups till I dropped a set of EMG SAs in Nick's Burnt Strat. Must admit, I really like them. I get why people who want a vintage Strat sound don't find them chimey enough, but for those Gilmour-esque moments as well as plenty of other territory: excellent!

I'm guessing a Kirk Hammett flavoured pickup wouldn't be my personal first choice but still I'd be curious to know more about that KH20 humbucker.

Seconds away, round two. 8)

As another gentleman calling himself Vlad probably didn't say: "The children of the night, what music they make..."

They were the KH20 set. Apparently just the standard SA singlecoils with an 81 keeping them company, and definitely active- you could hear a faint hiss when plugged in. The 81 was actually alright, still not my bag though. Too muddy sounding compared to the SD PG+ in the Lone Star, and not anywhere near as hot as the D-Sonic in ol' Red. It's not a case of the vintage sound for me, it's the clarity. I love hearing every nuance with a pickup. It's why I favoured PRS for so long, even their humbuckers have this insanely accessible clear sound. You got any soundclips of yours??

I am actually quite excited about the new toy. Very much so. I've even prepared the statutory Levy's strap, complete with straplocks, identical to the straps attached to the other two Strats. Tick tock...

You could always go with one of the coffin cases. I'd get an aluminum case with black interior if price wasn't an option. Or should I have said aluminium?

I'm set on having a Fender case. I know it sounds weird, but there's a certain smell they have that is just... lovely. Most noticeable on the late '90s-early '00s cases...
