I bought a body parted from a Fender 68 re-issue according to the seller and I am seeking info on the markings in the neck pocket. It has small numbers or letters toward the open side that I can't read because they were partially painted over and also covered with black marker, but it has a larger red S in a red circle and larger black block numbers that appear to be 671 toward the closed side; there may be a 7 before the 671 separated my a couple of spaces. The S circle is about 3/8 inch diameter and the 671 numbers are about 1/4 inch high. There is black marker over the 671, but it does not totally obscure them. Anyone know the significance of the S or the numbers?
This body is SSS config with 11 pickguard mounting holes, 2-3/16 trem screw spacing, and weighs exactly 4 pounds bare. I am guessing the 4 pounds would likely make it Alder.
