I have been wanting a SG for sometime now..Before i fell in love with Strats back in the late 90's i was a Gibson SG only player..I know thats blasphemy but truth none the less..
Now that i own 5 Strats and feel i have just about all my Strat tones covered i have been thinking about adding a SG...

Then i came across a advertisement for a Mahogany Strat..After further research i found a Mahogany body and neck with Ebony fret board..This is the basic materials of the type SG i have always played..

So my thoughts quickly turned to the idea what if i used a Mahogany body and neck with the ebony fret board double humbucker's with my favorite set of 59 humbuckers along with Gibson tone pots and such? Possibly as a hardtail but if it would not make much difference tone wise with a full strat style tremolo..

This way i would have SG tone but have the playability and familiarity of a Stratocaster..
Would the tremolo take away from the Mahogany SG type tones?

Is my thinking flawed here or would a Strat set up this way give me the desired tone of a SG?

People have told him, the strat has a gibsonesque tone
Quality about it.

Hey thanks for the reply on the guitar..But more importantly thanks you for the words in your signature...I have been dealing with many regrets from the past and worrying about the future. The saying you have in your signature really hit home and opened my eyes up to what i should be focusing on..

Fender string spacing is diff than gibson so your 59 pick ups with fender string spacing wont line up over the pickup magnets.

Not to mention the scale is different on a strat (25 1/2) vs the gibsons (24 3/4) this will make a tonal difference and certainly in feel.

After a "Restoration by an expert" efectively ruined my '65 Strat back in '76 I was heartbroken and placed all the hardware etc. into a solid walnut body and neck and it made a big difference in increasing the sustain yet it didn't take away the beautiful tonal properties she originally had.Since mahoganay is a similar wood in weight and density, your results could be very similar.

I have the Fender Strat Select HSS Translucient Crimson Red 2006. It's the first Strat I have owned. I got it about 6 weeks ago and to be honest, the Tex Mex/Dimond Back combo is awesome!! I play a Fender Heartfield and a PRS SE also and sound wise, the Select wins (the S1 switching might have a bit to do with my preference!!) But ultimately, you have to go with the sound you are happy with! I love the sound of all of my guitars, but the Select has an edge!!

I have had that guitar for a little over a year.
I wouldn't dare take it on our next tour to Europe, as my last guitar was subjected to some abuse out there, and I can't even imagine what may happen to this one.
