I weighed my 2005 Am Deluxe and it weighs 9 lbs. Is this unusually heavy for a Strat? Most of the time I play sitting down so it isn't a problem for me. It sounds great, seems very resonant, so no complaint here... just wondering if this is unusually heavy..

IMHO no :)

Edit:

EC custom shop= 8.2 lbs
'79= 10 lbs :o
Piasly master built= 8.4lbs
TK masterbuilt= 8lbs
TK masterbuilt= 8lbs
Mex strat= 8.4lbs

Thought: Are US lbs the same as UK lbs?

Those humbuckers are heavy.

Many of the seventies ash bodied strats with the big headstock will be heavier than 9 lbs.

I wonder who has the heaviest strat on the forum :?:

IMHO 9 lbs is OK

It's too heavy for me and my purposes.

All of my eight Strats weigh less than 8 lbs.

And my ash-bodied Mary Kaye tips the scales at under seven.

Nah, that's not heavy. I have a '74 Strat with an ash body....and it would make a great boat anchor! It is heavier than either of my Les Pauls too. Anywhere between 8 and 10 pounds is very normal weight for a strat (modern alder bodies).

I have an American Standard in ash. I've never weighed it but by feel, it's definitely heavier than some of the others in the shop I played.

9 lbs. is a bit heavy for a Strat,I had a '78 with a black ash body that tipped the scales at 11 lbs.I swapped it for a Marshall JCM 800 half stack because it was too heavy to play for any length of time-it was murder gigging with it.

It's far too heavy. I just can't stand to see a fellow forum member stuck with such an obese strat. Being the nice guy that I am, how about you just send it to me and I'll carry the load of playing that monstrosity of a strat for you?

Seriously, nice looking strat. I haven't weighed mine but my HSS MIM 1999 Strat is almost as heavy as my Les Paul (non chambered). I bet there isn't a half pound difference. My MIA 2000 strat is a lot lighter.

I haven't weighed any of these maybe one day I'll remember to weigh them.

A good friend of mine has a similar black ash strat, also late 7o's with a 'bullet truss road' which is also 11bs and is actually heavier than my 1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom!! He put gold fittings on & it looks great - but it's one of the worst Strats I've ever played with tone as dead as a Dodo! Doesn't help that the action is set too low and it's in dire need of a professional set-up. The p/ups also just lack any real Strat feel or tone and the bullet truss rod design that sticks out was IMHO just dreadful. Has a nice slim neck, but that's about all it has going for it.

I always thought my 1975 Strat was heavy (the heaviest of my fleet of them), but it's only 9 lbs 1 ounce (I finally had it weighed on a proper and capable scale at a local music store that does some mail order business), no where near as heavy as some of the big boys some forum members report.

It is hard to belive that some (single necked) Strats can weigh as much as the double necked Strat I built (12.55 lbs).
