Hi, I'm in the uk,and just came across this post and I can positively say yes to your question. In early 1988 , shortly after the release of the Amercan Standard and the rave reviews it was getting I wanted one. A friend worked at one of the London guitar shops ( Peter Cook's Guitar World ) . I asked if he had a sunburst but none were available ,so I asked what he had. He only had two,, one was Gunmetal Blue with Rosewood fingerboard and the other was Torino Red with Maple . I bought the Torino Red and I still have it today in lovely unmolested condition. ( I wish I'd bought both of them!)
I'm a newby on here but if you wanted photo's I'll gladly try and post some.
I know your post was a while ago, but I hope you see this.
Cheers....mick

Welcome to the Forums. There's quite a few UK members in here. They'll surface from time to time. Some of them have even gotten together for a brew, along with visitors from the States. Thanks for posting. I have no doubt that your pics are looked forward to.

Doc

I recently picked up a 1988 Strat Plus in Torino Red. I know they also made an American Standard Strat from 87-90 in this same color.
