I want to upgrade to a much better Fender bridge than the one that comes on the Deluxe Players Strat; specifically one with a steel block and much better saddles (stainless steel or nickel?).

Searching the net I find the Fender® American Vintage Stratocaster® Bridge Tremolo Assembly - Gold, part no. 099-2049-200.

Can someone (from Fender?) verify that this is an upgrade to a much better quality bridge than the one that came on my Deluxe Players Strat, or give me a part number for the gold (stainless steel) bridge that'll fit this guitar's 2-3/16" spacing?

This may help.
I used a Deluxe Players Strat body for my recent build.
I never saw the original bridge, but this US made Vintage Reissue one fits perfectly.
It has a full size steel block.

That is the correct part number for the US-made vintage-spec bridge in gold. And yes, it will drop on to your guitar without issues.
