A tuner button on my late 70's strat has come away from the stalk. What is the best way to repair these? The inside of the tuner button has the remnants of what looks like some kind of glue, are the buttons just glued on? If they are simply glued in, what is the correct glue to use to do the repair? Any ideas?

I have used a drop of clear silicone seal in the past if the slot in the button hasn't become too worn. If it has, then wrap a bit of sellotape around the stalk to give it a tighter fit. Thus staying away from glue that can be messy, and some glue can melt plastic and even corrode metal over time. Sometimes the simplest of solutions is often the best.

Bumping this thread just to see if someone who hasn't seen it yet has an answer. It's a new one on me: I've never seen a vintage type metal button come off a tuner and I'd be curious to find out if there's a recommended fix.

genericjohnson: I feel fairly sure those buttons were not originally glued on (though I stand to be corrected). Could the gluey gunk you are finding in there be a sign that this is not the first time the knob has failed? A previous owner's repair, maybe - or have you had the Strat from new?

Cheers - C
