Although my main axes are an Amer. Std Strat and a Baja Tele, I have an old favorite Ibanez SAS36FM that was my first electric. Never really liked the pups. The other day I found a buy on a set of TEX-MEX Strat pups and thought "GO FOR IT". So I am planning to switch out all the current pups, including the bridge humbucker, for a standard strat set. Not planning on any fancy wiring since this is my first attempt. I purchased a set of Fender T/V 250K pots but now realize that the threaded area is too short since it is not going into a pick guard but rather the wood of the SAS body. Wood thickness is less than 1/4". Appears I need a set of "long shaft" 250k pot.
Can anyone recommend a good source for longer pots? Other ideas?
Also I have not yet removed the humbucker, should there be an issue installing/mounting the single coil in that location? Assume wiring is done with 22 gauge stranded?
Thank you

I buy all my pots from here:

Humbuckers leave big holes in guitar bodies. How are you planning on installing a single coil in the giant hole left by a humbucker if the guitar doesn't have a pickguard?

Bill,

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll check the links out in the morning. Regarding the hum bucker, I have not yet removed the chrome ring around the pup to see what I am dealing with. I'm a fair wood worker so I can make a mount or support as necessary. I think

Until I have the parts, I'm not tearing out the curren pups or electronics.

Just looked at a picture of your guitar. Removing that humbucker will leave a hole twice the size of a single coil pickup. Gonna look ugly. If you are after a single coil sound at the bridge, I suggest a new, 4-wire humbucker and make the pickup splitable.

Bill,
In he clear light of morning, I agree with you. It is actually a lovely guitar and I probably will button it back up for now and research a new hum bucker. Plan to keep the Tex Mex set and perhaps buy an inexpensive Strat to play around with. I can do my own setup and fret polish work so could make it a "player", have some fun and learn too.

The humbucker on the Ibanez is currently coil tapped. Nice but tone is not great.

Thanks,

Cam
