A few days ago I picked up a new EC strat. Last night I noticed a small ding on the outside edge of the top horn. It is a couple cm in diameter. The urethane is still there its essentially a tiny dent in the finish.

I would bet a buffalo nickel its from a strap button during one of its trips up to or down from the top rack they had it on. I gave the instrument a good once over before walking out with it and didn't see it. It is invisible until you catch it at the right angle in the light.

From my perspective it doesn't matter. It is to be played not looked at. And this thing is small. I'm not thrilled but it gives me a sort of peace in that the first hit has already been taken and I can just play it and when it happens again, which it will someday, it won't sting near as much. Plus they already knocked it down $100 for me out the door which is less than a drop fill would cost if it really started to bother me.

But I made the mistake of making a comment about it to my wife. Her perspective needless to say is much different. She is on me to take it back and exchange it due to the price I paid and the fact that I know it didn't happen in my hands. Not yet anyway. It is inevitable I've told her but that does not compute.

So help me out guys. I want her to read this and understand that this is how it is. I don't want to return it and risk the inevitable "wait a minute this is different." I can just say no of course but a little backup will shorten the length of my sentence.

I'm right...right?

Guitars are inevitably going to get dings in them (usually from being bumped against objects and other mars, like belt buckle scratches. Actually, your ding is so small as to be almost insignificant. Show her a pic of that Rory Gallagher Strat that's featured in the Custom Shop products pages. Tell her, "and they come like that NEW!!" I don't think after seeing that that she'll pay much attention to your axe's tiny blemish.

Tell her the guitar is now "relic'd" and is now worth twice what you paid for it. The more dings it gets, the more it will be worth. Offer her some sandpaper and let her help make it even more valuable.

Trust me on this.
Tread carefully there, the last thing you want is a scorned woman preparing your food!
Many unsavoury treats, laxatives, or worse, can be delivered within the seemingly innocent Brownie.

LOL you guys are great thank you. She relented. I took her with me to the local shop and showed her how much lighter this one is even compared to the red clapton they have. It is the lightest strat I have ever held.

On a side note I got a Mustang III for fathers day. I think she felt bad for giving me grief. I had been playing a Jeff Beck sig through it when we were at the shop. I just cant get over how good this amp sounds. Makes the VOX sound like a wet cardboard box in comparison in my opinion. I was wanting the IV but for whatever reason I like the sound of the 100T in the III.

lol my old peavy stereo chorus 212 sounded like a wet cardboard box but i loved it. of course i was 12.

i played the mustang side by side with a vt80+. of course that is just my opinion. in my mind vox is going in the wrong direction. quantity instead of quality. i don't need 33 passable amp models. i need a couple really good ones. the 57' champ and the 65' twin are marvelous.

lol, dude, overall the mustang has way more options than the vox by a long shot.

The Vox VT range is very flawed.
My VT40+ had trailing hiss, sounded very boxy and was awful.
I changed the speaker for a Celestion Vintage G10, added acoustic foam, and played around inside making sure all the connections were solid.
Now sounds fine, but you shouldn't have to do this.
If I had known this before, I would have bought the Mustang.

Some time in the mid 90's I decided to give one of my sons a good guitar as he was getting pretty good at playing. I had a nice, almost new strat with the Floyd Rose tail end and a nice hard shell case. I had presented him with the guitar and he was delighted. A couple of days later I decided to get another electric to replace the one I had given him. After playing several different ones at the shop I picked up a MM Tele with the HB on the neck and instantly fell in love with it. I had played it a few minutes and was about ready to purchase when I noticed a small chip on the body. I ask the shop owner if he had another that wasn't damaged and he told me that it was the only one he had like it and said he would knock off twenty dollars for the chip. All these years later that is still my go-to guitar. I have owned many guitars since and I wouldn't trade this one for any of them. So I guess what I'm saying, if it feels right and sounds right, hang on to it as it might be a keeper.

you should take it back for warranty if you still can.
did you not try that amp out before you bought it?
