I'm on the verge of buying a strat ultra, but before I do, I wondered if any owners out there could give me their opinions - good and bad. Also, does anyone know their current value?

Personally, I think the Ultra is Fender's top of the line production guitar. They are pretty much the only ones with an ebony fingerboard. They also utilize the 5 position super switch, TBX, and a three position toggle switch to get the most out of the four Fender Lace Sensors.
The Lace Sensors are pretty remarkable as well. You can set them much closer to the strings than you can regular pickups. The Schaller locking tuners are great, as well as the Wilkonson or LSR roller nut (depending on age). Finally, the finishes are pretty uniques too, with their flame maple veneer.

Going prices range from as little as $800.00 for a modified or beat up one to as much as $1500.00 for a pristine copy.

Hope this helps.

+ 1 :D I have owned several and build custom ones that are wired the same. I play other guitars but always come back to the Ultra type wiring!
