maybe this isn't the place to post this. I'll also post it in the pickups forum.

I am building a new guitar, and it is going to be painted silver, with silver hardware and pickguard. I want to use pickups with a solid cover over them, like EMG style. I haven't decided on what pickups yet. The thing is, I want them to be silver, to match the hardware. If I paint the pickups with the same paint I use to paint the guitar, will it affect the sound or performance of the pickups?

.....You could use Lace Chrome Domes.
They're quite pricey though (something like $199 USD for a set?).

I don't see where it would pose a problem. I would suggest that you do a test on some scrap plastic to be sure that the chemicals in paint don't attack the plastic pickup covers and turn them into a pile of goo!

I've read that people doing Clapton's Fool SG reproductions roughed up the surface of the pickguard and pickup rings before putting down the primer. Then once that was down they put the paint over top, maybe you could try that. Again test it before trying it on the real thing as previously posted.
