i was setting up a buddies strat, when i noticed a strange overtone especialy on the high E string. i asked him about it and he said its' been there as long as hes' had the guitar, it's a mid 80s USA standard, he thought that all strats sounded that way. the overtone sounds like a ringing most promenent when you strum chords through a clean amp. but i can also hear it with the guitar unplugged. any body have any ideas on what to do to even out the high end ring ??????

It could be that the high e string nut slot was cut with an
Incorrect angle from the nut to the tuning peg,
Causing ringing and few tuning issues.

+1

That'd be the first thing I'd check.
