I have a 1996/1997 MIM Stratocaster. The Reciept says it's a Tex Mex model, but I have a hard time finding info online about one that has a HSS setup. I want to throw in some new pickups.
First question is....

I personally really like the guitar, but.....Is it worth it?

Second question is....
I want to switch it up to a 2 humbucker setup, so does it have a universal routing?

Depends on how expensive the pickups are being put in, and whether you are going to trade it in later. Most stores don't care that you put some upgrades in it, they will usually treat it like a stock model, except you may get $50 more dollars for it. And second, there is no route for a humbucker in the neck position, so you will have to cut some wood out.

First of all, if you like the guitar and your going to keep it for a while, then, of course its worth it. But if you are going to sell it on , it becomes more of a financial issue.
To the second question, check out EMG site, they do loaded scratch plates solder free with various combinations of setups, plug and play. There are plenty of single coil pups out there that that give you the tone of a humbucker without chopping out a piece of your guitar.

Further to my recent reply, I too cant find any info on that particular pup configuration in a Tex Mex. If you bought it as an original it should be the sss. If it is a Tex Mex then the humbucker has been added over the years. Its probably a Mexican strat that do have the HSS pup setup. It might be a good idea to search http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx, and see what info it comes up with. Good luck.

Where is the receipt from?

If you "personally really like the guitar" then it's worth it.
