I changed to a heavier gauge but apparently the low E-string is too thick for the nut, cause the piece on the side of the low E-string has broken off...

Has anyone ever had this problem when switching to a heavier string gauge?

AND

Should I glue it back on and leave some space. Or should I "melt" it to it somehow or...?

Need help please

Have a better nut installed for the heavier strings.

I have had this happen before, though not on a fender. My nut was used to .09-.10's and i was using .11's...it broke exactly like yours, I had a bone nut installed. i suggest doing the same.

Does anyone know what the nuts are made out of on a standard MIM strat?

Happened to me on my P-Bass. I had the nut replaced to the specific guage that I use. I wouldn't suggest glueing or melting the nut back together. But that's just me.

New nut definitely. Has anyone tried a brass nut on a strat?

The list of parts of the Mex 50s model says it's a bone nut...

So is there like a different nut with slightly wider string-spacing to replace my current (broken) one?

The best advise is to have a tech replace the nut with a bone or Graphtec.

For a quick fix, and as long as it broke on the side and not in the bottom where the string exerts pressure; use one 1/2 drop of Gorilla glue (using a toothpick) and glue it back on. Do not let this glue get on any other parts. Wait 24 hours and file it a tad larger to accommodate the larger string diameter.
