I went to a few local guitar shops yesterday to look at some strats. I saw the newest squires that had been "Crafted in China". Is it just me or are these instruments complete crap. Every one of the standards that I played had a whole list of problems... However the Classic Vibe duo sonic i played that was "Crafted in China" as well was actually superb. It had nice finish and fit and played wonderfully. How can there be such a large difference in build quality? They are both made in china right? In my opinion they don't even look like stratocasters. They look more like the Fake strats you see for sale on the internet. Anyone else noticed this or have any input on the subject? What are your thoughts about the "China made" Strats?

When I read many people extolling the virtues of the Classic Vibe range, I thought they were just hyping up their purchases because the money didn't run to a 'real' Fender.
When a Classic Vibe Custom Tele appeared at my local guitar shop, I couldn't resist trying it.
It was so good, I had to have it.
It feels quality, sounds great and is a joy to play, and although the standard Squires are good value, they can't compare.
The Chinese are fully capable of producing quality goods for a good price

+1
I know people love to run down Chinese exports (and God knows our country is flooded with them), but I own several Made In China guitars and I have no complaints about any of them. Guitars from China and Indonesia have improved tenfold in recent years.

Both a 90s Peavey Raptor and Custom Shop strat are both made in the US and they are nowhere near the same quality. Country of origin doesn not determine the quality of a guitar, but rather the specs and craftsmanship. The chinese Factories build to whatever specs Fender asks them too. There are lower level squiers and then the top of the line deluxes, Vintage modifieds, and classic vibes

i used to think squiers were all crap until i picked up my MIC classic vibe squier. its not the best neck ive ever played, but overall quality is shocking for a squier.
My new LTD is also made in china and is superb.

I own 2 Squiers, a tele and strat. Crafted in China. The tele was a gift from the wife about 8 years ago and has gone through a few changes. all pots and switch have been replaced with better quality components, and the pups are fender scn. The strat is more recent and started out life as the classic vibe in olympic white, which in my opinion looks fantastic. However the scratch plate, pups etc. have been replaced with the EMG DG-20 David Gilmour setup. Both guitars have been setup to my style of playing and both feel and sound fantastic.
If you have a limited budget like me and cant afford the signature series you've always dreamed of... then.. the squier is a good base model to create your own. I did, and wouldn't part with neither of them.

Keep in mind that a modified Squier Bullet can make a great guitar! Squiers are always great for modifying, mainly because it's relatively cheap for a neck and body, and it's up to you to put your choice of electronics in it. I personally like the Bullet necks (there profile, size, etc.)

My brother has a made in China Squier Tele. Off course, after they've taken a boat ride across the Pacific and have been driven or flown to wherever in the country you live you can bet the set up it's not going to play how it did when it left. A good set up can make a Chinese Squier play better than an Amercian made Fender with a bad set up. So just because they didn't play well off the shelf doesn't really mean anything. They're also much better quality than anything else you'll find in that price range.

I also have an Indonesian made Squier Strat which is about ten years old. I replaced the pickups with Texas Specials and gutted all the electronics replacing it with better components. I also had it set up. It was my main guitar for years, even though I owned a Fender Strat and a couple of other guitars that would be considered by most to be "better" guitars. The only reason I'm not playing it as my main instrument now is because I've worn the frets so badly that it needs yet another fret level.

And yes, the Classic Vibe series is awesome. I'm dying to get a Duo-Sonic, but since I technically don't need it I can't really justify it.
Stupid GAS.
