Lovely Strat..

When you've played it in, and you're prepared to invest in a set of strings, take out the block and remove 2 of the springs. Adjust the bridge to float..

Something magical will happen, to what is already a superb sound..

(We did this recently to my buddy's Clapton sig strat and we were both gob-smacked with the result)

Welcome to the Clapton Strat Lovers side of the aisle. Seems to me I just finished saying a lot of those things on the 'dinged finish' thread, and so did the new owner there. Best neck in the line, best all-around Stratocaster ever. The Masterbuilt version will have a standard tone pot, not a TBX. Eric's perference. When you decide to activate the trem, you might want to have a second Clapton in your stable. This way you argue that the guitars each have their own unique voice.

This continues to be a very interesting narrative.

I believe the EC is the most popular in sales of all of the Artist series guitars. None of the major online retailers can keep the entire EC line in stock (all of the colors, production line and custom shop.)

thank you for your responses in both threads. the neck is the most comfortable i have ever held. With the mid boost around 6-7 and volume at 8 it has more balls than my buddies 61' SG reissue IMO. roll back to 4-5 and it cleans up great. i am floored by the whole setup. i didnt know a strat could sound like that. you could play metal with this machine if you so chose. i still haven't developed a feel for the TBX. i need to do more reading as i don't think i fully understand how to use it in conduction with pickup selection/mid boost. why does clapton not use the TBX? that is something i wasnt aware of.

i am still on the fence regarding the trem. i have never liked the fender style trem. honestly would have blocked it with a piece of tone wood if i hadn't gone with the clapton. however adey really peeked my interest. i have thought about a callaham block and saddles though for the added density.

in regards to the second clapton that is very solid logic sir. planning to start putting away a little at a time to save for a masterbuilt version. not sure i would ever buy another model of electric at this point. this does everything and does it well.

The TBX is a treble/bass cut. If you search the archives of www.premierguitar.com you'll find a recent article on the inner workings of that pot. With respect to Clapton, the rumor is that he felt the conventional tone pot gave him a cleaner signal for his ear. With respect to the aftermarket trems, Mike Eldred did not have kind words for that product, and I trust that he seriously feels that the Fender stock parts are superior. There's a lot of history behind him to understand why. Remember that the Clapton's bridge and mass block are vintage style and materials even though the system does not float. It's setup derives from the fact that, for Clapton, the system as constructed supplied a better tone that an all wood hardtail. It's interesting to note that the old guitar did not have a wood stop in that space between the mass block and rear of the
trem cavity.

Yes. The back of the guitar appears on the back cover of the 2004 auction catalog. The trem claw flat against the body as is the mass block, but no wood spacer. I'm sure someone will post a pic of that...perhaps 'chromeface'.

You have chosen wisely my son. My clapton Strat is the best guitar I own. The black looks great. I did go with the oh so rare candy green.

I feel like Clapton Strat owners are a brotherhood. Welcome to the club.
