I'm using the planet waves "protect" and "shine" products, I also have dunlop's 65 cleaning formula or whatever.

So when I use the planet waves stuff my highway one gets all shiny, is this good? Is it ruining the finish or helping it wear faster or something?

I wanna keep the finish new looking now but I still want it to age nice later one.

Help?

Shiny as in the stain finish is all buffed out? Or shiny as in thin layer of oily stuff on top?

I use the Fender Meguire products - they are the best I've ever used. I always make sure to "dust" the guitar with a soft, clean paintbrush to remove any dust particles before I wax or shine.

If you use a "scratch and swirl" remover type of polish, then the satin finish of the Highway One will get glossy -- not just oily!

That's what I used on purpose to gloss up mine!

From what you describe; the Planet Waves product probably has some sort of wax contained within it.
Dunlop's 65 Polish is very popular among music shops for keeping their guitars looking their best in a safe manner. When I do guitar tech work, unless the client specifies, I will use Dunlop 65 for a polish product.
What you want to avoid like a bad manager, is any polish that has silicone in it at more than 2%.
Unless ' mistaken, the Highway 1 series finish is a nitro finish that is lacking clear top coats. Translation: you can get to the wood faster if you are rough on the treatment of the finish.

Sunny Boy - you got me thinking - Do you suppose it would be possible to use some type of compound and turn the matt finish on a Hwy1 to a gloss finish?

Just trying to figure out if you were buffing out the satin finish. Looks like you are. That's cool.

ok thanks. And from what sunny boy says, it looks like it the carnuaba wax (i.e. "protect") That's giving it that shine. Anyways it seems like I'm not damaging the finish :D which is good.

Thanks everyone!
