what's the diference between the vintage string saddle and the block saddle (is that how you call them??)?

cause my vm strat has more of a twang to it and the strings feel like they vibrate more freely and they have the vintage saddles on it and i played one with block saddles and i liked the feel but the strings felt more "trapped" was it cause of the saddles or could it be the strings?

Actually, you've answered your own question. With the vintage saddles, the strings sit freely on the curved surface where they can move around a tiny bit from left to right as opposed to the block type saddles which funnel each strings to an exact, set position.
