Hey everyone. I just recently traded my Hamer double cutaway for a new MIM strat Brown 3 tone burst black pickgaurd and Maple neck. I Own a lespaul and have been a devoted LP follower for years but always loved the strat. Now that I have one, I already plan on getting a professional set up and all of that. Because I do not know much about strats, I do have questions...that I couldn't quite find the answers to on this forum.

The Serial # is MZ7140633...anyone know which year that might be??

I am interested in changing the stock pickups for the Fender custom 69 pickups...does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I was also thinking about using .11 gauge strings for better tone in addition to a bone nut, again any thoughts?

I have also been kicking the idea around of putting a vintage reissue neck on it (the kind with the 70's headstock) and with rosewood fretboard. I was looking at the American necks, and thinking of putting it on the Mexican body...would this work? is it a one size fits all sort of deal?? The necks run 200-500 bucks, so I am hestitant.

I have heard mixed thoughts on MIM strats, I have never played an american model, but my Mexican appears to be very well crafted and beautiful to look at. Thanks for any coments or answers you guys can give me...very much appreciated

It sounds like a Highway One Strat would have been more to your liking!

Those pickups aren't cheap. And you saw that a neck with the '70s look isn't either.

It is a 2007. I believe Fender started using this numbering system in 2000. I have a DZ0### it is an 2000 American Deluxe. The number after the Z is the year. Don't know what they'll do in 2010, change the letter? :)

I, too have been a Gibson man for years and recently purchased my 1st Strat. I have EMGs on mine and love them. SAV

No input there.

I read somewhere that ALL fender necks are made in the US, can't remember where, but just recently. So I wouldn't spend the money unless you REALLY want the 70's headstock.

I don't know the real difference other than I'm keeping my money in the states, but maybe if we bought more MIM ... Oh, I guess I'll be politically correct and shut up.

I wonder if Fender actually sells more MIM guitars than USA guitars?!?

My guess is that they do, if for no other reason than price - which is the point anyway - avg street MIM price is under $500 compared to MIA around $1,500.

FYI I was doing some research yesterday and came across the fact that the original Strats sold for approx $250 back in '54 which translates to $1,800 in today's money. So for over 50 years Stratocaster prices have remained essentially constant - maybe even gone down. How's that for interesting?
